Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – Air Seychelles is set to re-launch its Seychelles-Madagascar route later this year.

The company had suspended its route last year to ensure the long-term profitability and sustainability of the airline.

Prior to the suspension, the company said the move was aimed at consolidating its international network. The company also revealed that it will be replacing its regional fleet of the Airbus A320 aircraft with the next generation aircraft this year, to increasing seat capacities and reduce operational costs.

Air Seychelles’ Chief Executive Officer, Remco Althuis, told L’Express De Madagascar that the route’s test phase will be carried out between July and October because their market review showed that there is an increase in traffic in summer.

“This is why we opted for the high tourist season period to carry out the test phase of the revival of the service,” said Althuis, adding that their aim is to respond to rapidly increasing competition in the air travel sector.

He noted that after the suspension, travelers were forced to take two flights from Mahé in Seychelles to Antananarivo in Madagascar.

The new flights are expected to have about 120 seats in its economy class and 15 seats in the first class.
