Nigeria’s Green Eagles top AFCON group E after beating Seychelles

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (ADV) – Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ 3-1 defeat of the Pirates of Seychelles has landed the West African country in the first place with 13 points in Group E for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

The match on Friday was the final encounter in the qualifying phase that was played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Nigeria’s Delta State capital.

The Super Eagles took the lead in the 35th minute of the match with a penalty shot by Odion Ighalo.

That followed a mishap by Super Eagles keeper, Francis Uzoho, who punched the ball to the oncoming Seychelles player who shot into the empty net for the equaliser in the 41st minute of the match. 

Super Eagles’ second goal came in the 50th minute through Henry Onyekuru, and the third and final one from substitute Moses Simon in the 90th minute.

Super Eagles beat Seychelles 3-0 during the first leg in Seychelles.
