Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – The Mozambican government recently officially announced an international call for tenders to provide consultancy services for the Mphanda Nkuwa dam project, African Daily Voice has learnt.

According to Lusa, the dam, to be built on the Zambezi River, has been under consideration for many years, and could be the biggest in the country after Cahora Bassa.

“The winner of the public tender will work for the Implementation Office of Mpanda Nkwa Hydroelectric Project, which was created by the government in February,” said the Ministry for Mineral Resources and Energy through a statement.

The consultants are to help the Mozambique in matters regarding the current concession, updating technical studies and finding a strategic partner, and will join the public companies Electricity of Mozambique (EdM) and Hydroelectric Cahora Bassa (HCB) in the infrastructures’ development.

The ministry has also launched a tender for a Project Director.

The Mphanda Nkuwa dam will be located 70 km from the capital of Tete province and 1,500 km from Maputo, the country’s capital.
