NEWSROOM (ADV) – At least three people – two gendarmes and a civilian – were killed Wednesday in an attack in Bagaji, a village in the Dogondoutchi department (south-west of Niger), so far spared by jihadist raids, according to local authorities .

This is the first attack of its kind in the Dogondoutchi area, which has so far been spared from the deadly militant raids.

Dogondoutchi is close to Nigeria, but far from the theater of operations of Boko Haram, also author of deadly incursions in the Nigerian region of Diffa (southeast) several hundred kilometers away.

Last week, the United Nations deplored “a volatile security situation” in south-eastern and western Niger, close to Burkina Faso, Mali and Nigeria, because of continuing deadly attacks that have made hundred deaths in 2018.
