Zambia’s music giant passes on

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ADV) – Zambian celebrated musician, Brian Chilala (56) passed on following a tragic car accident over weekend, African Daily Voice has learnt.

He died around 23hrs at the scene of the accident on Lumumba Road, opposite AutoWorld

The man behind Kalindula music genre was known for his Shimololwa hit maker.

Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development to the media.

“The accident happened due to excessive speed, lost control of the motor vehicle and hit into a street light pole and overturned once,” said police

Also known as the “Rebel”, Chilala was married to former Permanent Secretary, Dr. Velepi Mtonga.

The rebel also did hits which include Awisi Boyi, Nsanje, Jombo, Shimololwa and Mailesi.

His music featured sharp lyrics which satirically commented on social life and lifestyles.

Chilala also owned the band-Ngoma-Zasu Band.
