Tunisia extends state of emergency for another month

NEWSROOM (ADV) – Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi has decided to extend the state of emergency for another month starting on February 5, the presidency said on Monday.

The decision came after consultations with Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed and Speaker of the Assembly of People’s Representatives Mohamed Ennaceur.

The state of emergency in Tunisia has been extended several times, the last one dating from January 6, 2019 and was declared for the first time on November 24, 2015 following a bomb attack perpetrated against a bus of the Presidential Guard, which killed 12 officers and injured several others.
