JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ADV) – The Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, has urged Ambassadors to be sharp-sighted towards global trends.

He further shed light on the broader changing dynamics of international affairs and diplomacy in the 21st century. He also highlighted its significant implications on regional, geopolitical and global developments.

“Given the fast changing global trends, our diplomatic posture and stamina should be proactive, robust and multi-directional, fueling our core principles of mutual respect, mutual benefits and reciprocal trust as we navigate a highly unpredictable, uncertain global system,” he said.

The Minister further stressed that to successfully execute the country’s foreign policy priorities and promote their national interests, diplomats and ambassadors needed to engage in consistent and rigorous awareness of 21st century diplomacy.

“Our general competency is part and parcel of our stride for visibility and outreach to meet contemporary global challenges for a brighter prospect and excellence in diplomacy,” he added.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a vision to become a leading diplomatic institution in Africa with the ability and capacity to marshal strategic partners for the continent, and the region complimenting a central role in the achievement of people and stability in the Horn of Africa. The country is currently represented in 46 Embassies and 14 Consulates abroad.
