Senegal / Presidential : ECOWAS appoints Yayi Boni as Head of Observer Mission

NEWSROOM (ADV) – Benin’s former president, Yayi boni, has been chosen as the long-term electoral observation chief of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the presidential election of 25 February 2019.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the ECOWAS Commission Francis Awagbe Behanzin during a hearing with the President of the National Autonomous Electoral Commission (CENA) Doudou Ndir .

According to Mr. Béhanzin, the long-term ECOWAS Election Observation Mission deployed for one month, falls within the framework of the provisions of the additional protocol adopted by the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the sub-regional institution. for the support of the governance of the Member States.

It consists of monitoring the electoral process in all regions of the country, especially since the activity of deployment of election materials in the field until the proclamation of the results of the vote, through the election campaign and the election well said.

As a reminder, 6.8 million Senegalese voters are being called to ballot for the presidential election on February 24, 2019. Five candidates are running for the vote, including incumbent President Macky Sall.
