NEWSROOM (ADV) – Authorities in Mozambique’s fishing administration announced on Friday that fishing and shrimp sales were banned for two months in the country to allow production to resume.

The ban comes into force from the beginning of January until the end of February, said the director of the provincial directorate for the Sea, Inland Waters and Fisheries, Mauricio Mausse, to the press in the capital Maputo.

“There will be no fishing, selling and transporting shrimp during the blackout period,” said Mausse, adding that the decision was made to improve the supply on the market.

He said markets would be inspected and punitive measures would be imposed in case of non-compliance.
