NEWSROOM (ADV) – A historic peace agreement between the government in the person of President Touadéra and the 14 military-political groups was initialed Tuesday in Khartoum, reviving the hopes of peace in this country bruised by years of conflict.
This peace agreement was obtained on Saturday after a dozen days of negotiations in Khartoum under the benevolent eye of Sudan and other partner countries.
Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has presented himself as the guarantor of the success of this agreement.
“The Khartoum agreement paves the way for the return of peace in our country, it is now time to open a new page for the Central African Republic,” said Central African President Faustin-Archange Touadéra who added to the representatives of armed groups “Let’s go back together to Bangui and build our country together”.
Sudan played a crucial role in this process, which allowed the African Union to finally achieve a breakthrough, as well as Russia, which initiated this process.
The Khartoum negotiations, launched on January 24, brought together all the leaders of the armed groups and the legitimate government of Bangui.
