Founded in 2016, Hlokomela Banana is an initiative of the Queen’s Trust Fund that is committed to providing sanitary products to all female secondary and high school learners in Lesotho. It is mandated to assist vulnerable pupils who usual miss school lessons during their monthly menstruation cycles due to lack of sanitary.

“Let me start by commending Her Majesty for the important work that you are championing to empower and uplift our young girls through the Hlokomela Banana initiative,” said Tsitsi Masiyiwa, the co-founder of the Econet Group’s philanthropic arm, HigherLife Foundation.

Masiyiwa recently visited Lesotho for charity work which includes supporting the Hlokomela Banana initiative.

During her visit, Masiyiwa donated sanitary towels to 140 school girls at Thabana Tšooana Secondary School in Machache under the initiative. She also donated groceries to homes of vulnerable children in Maseru.

“We look forward to continuing to partner with you to alleviate the challenges that keep our girls out of school and ensure that as many girls as possible have access to the education they deserve,” she said, adding that her foundation is proud to have been part of this initiative since its launch.
