JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ADV) –The Zambia Under-23 National Team has kicked off their preparations for the Egypt 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Malawi.

Assistant coach, Bilton Musonda, said he is happy that they have started to prepare while it is still early because the will have enough time.

“The first game is in March. We are looking at local players and we will incorporate local players later,” said Musonda, adding that the team has set its sights on lifting Zambian football spirits in this year.

Musonda has assured his team’s followers that they are trying to work hard in order to qualify to go to the AFCON.
“After the senior team failed to qualify, we are all looking at this team. You may say it is under-23 but if you look at the age group that is the senior team,” he said.

Winner of the Zambia and Malawi clash are set to qualify for the final qualifying round in June to face either Congo Brazzaville or Burundi to decide who qualifies to the Egypt finals. The 2019 AFCON is set to be used as a qualifier for the Japan 2020 Olympics Games.
