Casablanca, (ADV) – The Ugandan government has instructed all United Nations humanitarian agencies in the country to increase the percentage of locals in positions occupied by expatriates, a top official said on Friday.
Musa Ecweru, minister of state for refugees and disaster preparedness, said this while speaking at the South Korea’s donation of 5,000 tons of rice to refugees in Uganda. The food was handed over to the UN World Food Program in the eastern Ugandan district of Tororo.
He said there are so many Ugandan graduates who can equally perform as the expatriates.
Ecweru said the policy of having more Ugandans work in the same positions as expatriates is going to spread across all organizations.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Uganda is the third largest refugee host country in the world. The country hosts 1.4 million refugees.
