Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – The South Africa National Women’s football team has said it is ready to tackle Finland on Wednesday, where the two sides feature in the 2019 Cyprus Women’s Cup.

Prominently known as Banyana Banyana, the team is looking at improving on the form which saw them ending on 6th position during previous World Cup tournament.

According to a statement issued by South African Football Association (SAFA), striker Linda Motlhalo cautioned her colleagues to be vigilant as they are facing a determined opponent.

“Our aim is to improve from last year’s position six to finish a bit higher, and don’t discount the chances of us winning it, but we will take it game by game,” she said, adding that this is a very important tournament for Banyana Banyana, because they want to use it to prepare for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, set for June to July in France.

“So we have to go there and give our all as though we are already at the World Cup, because these are the types of conditions and opponents we will face in France, but I think we will do well this time around, there is a lot of positivity and fight for places in the team, and that is very exciting as it makes us work even harder.”

South Africa has been drawn in Group A against Finland, Czech Republic and Korea DPR.

The Cyprus Women’s Cup, which is an invitational 12-nation women’s football tournament held annually in Cyprus, is set for this coming Wednesday until next Wednesday.
