NEWSROOM (ADV) – Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Friday called by decree the electorate of his country for April 18 to elect the future head of state announced the presidency in a statement.

This presidential decree thus ends a controversy within the political class that lasted for more than a month, some referring to a possible postponement of this important meeting.

But three months from this deadline, no personality in the country has yet announced its intention to be a candidate.

The reason, according to Algerian observers, is that potential candidates are waiting to know whether Mr. Bouteflika, who has been in office since 1999, will decide whether or not to run for a fifth term.
