NEWSROOM (ADV) – Egyptian police on Sunday announced the discovery of an ancient tomb under a house near the Pyramids of Giza, belonging to a man who illegally and secretly dug two trenches to reach the burial site.

“We discovered illegal excavations of antiques under a house, which led to an ancient tomb near the Giza pyramid plateau,” the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior said in a statement.

The house is located in the district of Nazlat as-Samman, near the Giant Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza.

The owner of the house dug two rectangular trenches leading to two rocky underground chambers, one of which contains six carved statues on the walls and a damaged pot.

The police searched the house, placed him under surveillance and arrested the 37-year-old resident.
