Addis Ababa, Ethipia (ADV) – In under a month since the United States reunited with Somalia, Donald Trump’s government has announced “a critical investment” in the Horn Africa nation.
The amount involved could hit a beyond a whooping $900 million with the largest chunk earmarked for humanitarian assistance, a statement said Tuesday.
Disclosing the move, U.S. Ambassador Donald Yamamoto explained that the financial injection was part of US efforts “to create a better tomorrow for Somalis”.
“The United States is meeting life-saving humanitarian assistance needs; expanding education and healthcare; building institutions, good governance, and justice; creating jobs and advancing economic development; and providing stabilization and security for the people of Somalia,” the statement read.
The US government along with its aid agency, USAID re-established permanent diplomatic presence in Mogadishu in this December after unceremoniously pulling out at the height of intense fighting sparked by terror groups that sent a devastating blow to US troops.
