NEWSROOM (ADV) – The two leading candidates, two ex-presidents Andry Rajoelina and Marc Ravalomanana now have this in common: all contest the provisional results of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In Madagascar, the two candidates who emerged at the head of the presidential race in the first round raise doubts about the INEC’s methods.

Andry Rajoelina’s party had withdrawn from the election observation process after the fraud attempts that stained this first round.

The protests of the two main candidates have resonated with the population and cause great fears.

The masses now refuse to trust any provisional results that will be published by the INEC.

Liliane Ravaoharinirina, INEC’s Deputy National Executive Secretary, explains that “the delays in the routing of material, such as voting booths, which prevented the vote from starting at the legal time [ …] were due to the resignation of some members of polling stations, one day before.

Shortcomings in the chain that hampers the neutrality of these elections, recall the bias of some INEC’s executives.

The candidate Marc Ravalomanana calls for the respect of the laws throughout this electoral process.

The vote continued this afternoon in Madagascar with, according to the indications, an abstention in progress compared to that of 45.7% recorded during the first round on November 7th.

The figures thus testify to a lack of confidence on the part of Malagasy voters in the INEC.

“There is 4-5% less participation in the whole country,” said Cristian Preda, head of the European Union (EU) observation mission at midday.

“I am confident, I think the people of Madagascar will decide once and for all who will lead the country,” said Rajoelina.
