JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ADV) – The South African government is set to embark on a pre-State of the Nation Address (SoNA) community lobbying activation initiative around Cape Town, the Ministry of Communication has said.
The activations are held to engage communities and provide pertinent information building up to the SoNA, which will be delivered by President Cyril Ramaphosa on later the same day.
“The Minister and Deputy Minister of Communications, Ms Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Ms Pinky Kekana, will, on 7 February 2019, lead community mobilisation activations in the City of Cape Town,” reads a statement issued by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).
The SoNA is delivered to a joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament. Accordingly, the President will set the tone on critical matters and report back to South Africans on the progress since his last address.
GCIS also mentioned that the president will also provide an update on the implementation of the Programme of Action based on the National Development Plan.
The 2019 SoNA will be delivered within the context of the current strides made by government to respond to the various challenges facing the country.
The address also takes place on the cusp of the country celebrating 25 years of freedom and democracy.
