JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ADV) – Reports coming from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) suggest that members of the rebel group Kamwina Nsapu will be integrated back to their villages after they surrendered their weapons.

The Southern Province of Kasai Governor, Denis Kambayi disclosed that 600 members of the militi were instructed by the government authorities to submit.

The Kamwina Nsapu rebellion is an ongoing rebellion instigated by the Kamwina Nsapu militia against state security forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in the provinces of Kasaï-Central, Kasaï, Kasai-Oriental, Lomami and Sankuru.

“The militias will be able to return to their village after they have been identified and the weapons they surrendered are recorded,” Kambayi said.

The state is expecting more rebels to surrender their  weapons as the government aims to enroll them through an integration programme.

The government has predicted about 1,700 militias in total.

Since 2016, the Nsapu group previously attacked the military, police and civilians.

According to United Nations, the attacks has displaced more than 1.4 million people.
