NEWSROOM (ADV) – Tunisian authorities have launched a new security approach to counter terrorism as armed jihadist groups increasingly tend to change tactics to alter their plans for terrorist attacks, Tunisian Interior Minister Hichem said on Monday Fourati.

After a hearing in camera at the Assembly of People’s Representatives, Mr. Fourati explained during a press briefing, that this is a new ” Safe Road Map “which will start in Kasserine province (west-central) before spreading it to the remaining 23 provinces of the country.

“The Interior Ministry has begun to implement a new counterterrorism security plan in Kasserine Province, which will be progressively spread in the border provinces including Jendouba and Le-Kef (north-west),” the minister said Tunisian Interior.

According to him, the new security plan “aims to unite the efforts of the security forces on the ground in the fight against terrorism and improve their intelligence capabilities to ensure a more effective intervention while providing them with all the logistics and the appropriate equipment “.

In this sense, a new “mixed security force” (police and National Guard) will operate exclusively in the field of the fight against terrorism, whose members will be highly qualified for such missions.

“This mixed unit will have full right to exercise its mission freely and independently of the hierarchical orders of the province concerned”, continued the Minister of the Interior.

According to Fourati, “terrorist groups have deliberately changed their plans and are increasingly seeking new ways to mislead security forces, including the activation of dormant cells across the country, orchestrated by unidentified and unrecognized individuals with security authorities “.

The Tunisian minister referred to warnings issued by the US State Department to US nationals wishing to visit Tunisia not to visit parts of the country because of terrorist threats. He stressed that “these warnings do not only concern Tunisia but rather threats involving all the countries of the world”.

“Many European countries, including Great Britain, have already eased their restrictions on travel to Tunisia, which they have sent to their nationals, thereby recovering many of the traditional destinations on the Tunisian tourist market,” the minister said Tunisian Interior.
