Electoral Commission of Zambia announces dates for by-elections

Johannesburg, South Africa (ADV) – The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set 11th of April, as the day for the holding of Bahati and Roan Parliamentary by elections, African Daily Voice has learnt.

According to a statement issued by the ECZ Public Relations Manager Margaret Chimanse the by elections in Bahati and Roan Constituencies have been necessitated following the expulsion of incumbent Member of Parliament Harry Kalaba and the crossing of the floor of Chishimba Kambwili to the National Democratic Congress NDC.

The by-elections will be held along other seven local government by elections in Chinyanja ward of Kabwe, Makunku ward of Itezhi tezhi, Chilyapa ward of Mansa, Lengelengeda ward of Chavuma, Mfishe ward of Mungwi, Muyondoli ward of Mitete and Muchinga ward of Chama districts.

Chimanse said the commission has also advised aspiring candidates wishing to contest in the by elections that failure to comply with requirements will render their nominations void.

And the commission has set the campaign period to commence on 14th March after 15:00 and will end on Wednesday 10th April at 18:00 hours.
