NEWSROOM (ADV) – On Tuesday, the Libyan Red Crescent Society found five bodies of migrants off the Libyan town of Sirte, about 450 kilometers east of the capital, Tripoli.
The remains were found in Harawa, east of Sirte, said the Red Crescent Society.
Since the uprisings in 2011, the removal of former leader Muammar Gaddafi and the chaos and insecurity in which the country of North Africa is plunged, Libya has become the preferred starting point for many illegal migrants. who hope to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe.
According to the Red Crescent, in early December, 15 illegal migrants drowned when their boat capsized off Misrata, some 250 kilometers east of Tripoli.
