Johannesbourg, South Africa (ADV) – The South African Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is set to officially launch the 2019 SADC Media Awards competition on Friday.

Launched in 1996 by the SADC Council of Ministers with a view to promoting regional integration through information dissemination, the awards also aims to recognize excellence in journalism in the area of print, photojournalism, television and radio as well as to encourage media practitioners in member states to cover issues pertaining to the region for the promotion of regional integration and cooperation.

The workshop will engage journalists on the elements that are required for SADC Media Awards entries and to also provide feedback on the outcomes of the 2018 Competition.

The SADC team will provide positive guidance on the South African Chapter of the Awards.

The SADC Media Awards workshop will be followed by a lunch and networking session.

Regional integration, in the context of this competition, refers to inter alia: programmes, projects and activities supportive of the SADC common agenda involving, benefitting and/or affecting at least two SADC Member States.
