Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (ADV) – Local media in the Ethiopian capital on Tuesday reported the arrest of two former top security brass of the federal army.

Reports say the Ethiopian Federal police nabbed the two renegade officers identified as Kinfe Dagnew and Tekleberhan Woldearegay.

The Africanews portal quoting the ‘Addis Fortune’ online publication, said “Knife” was the former Chief Executive Officer of Metal and Engineering Corporation, MetEC – the army’s business wing.

Sources said Tekleberhan for his part, was the former head of the Information Network Security Agency, INSA, the ertswhile feared intelligence wing of the country’s security setup.

The sources quoted OBN, the Oromia regional state’s communication outlet as saying that the two were being detained in an undisclosed location.

The sources further alleged that the two were nabbed Monday night near Ethiopia’s border with Sudan while attempting to flee the country.

No mention was made about the reason for their alleged attempted escape, but sources believe they were escaping justice for economic and rights violations they allegedly committed in the country during the past regime.

Incumbent Ethiopian leader Abiy Ahmed was waging a war on political and economic crimes in a bid to carry out sweeping reforms to set the country straight on the road to impunity and transparent governance.
