NEWSROOM (ADV) – High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy and Security Federica Mongherini on Monday visits Algeria to hold the second session of the High Level Dialogue on Cooperation in the Fields regional security and the fight against terrorism said Sunday a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel will co-chair with Ms Mongherini the work of the dialogue launched in October 2017 in Brussels, the statement said.
The two sides will continue consultations on terrorist threats and its relations with cross-border organized crime, the source added, saying that the two delegations will examine ways to strengthen their cooperation in this area, while exchanging on the latest developments of regional and international issues of common interest.
According to the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relations between the two sides “have made a qualitative progress through the adoption of common priorities for the partnership under the renewed good neighborhood policy”.
The ministry said Mongherini’s visit following recent visits by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, as well as the head of Spanish diplomacy in Algeria, “proves that the density of relations between Algiers and Brussels bilaterally and multilaterally “.
During the partnership council meeting in Brussels between the European Union and Algeria in March 2018, the two parties signed a series of agreements totaling 40 million dollars to support renewable energies, facilitating trade and improving the Algerian economy.
