NEWSROOM (ADV) – Algerian ruling party said on Sunday that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will be its sole candidate for the presidential election due in April 2019, official APS news agency reported.

“Bouteflika is the president and head of the party. We have no other candidate for the 2019 presidency but Bouteflika,” Secretary General of the ruling National Liberation Front Djamel Ould Abbas was quoted as saying.

Bouteflika, 81, has been suffering health problems after he was hit by a stroke in 2013, as he makes rare public appearances.

Re-elected in 2014 for a fourth term until 2019, Bouteflika is likely to run for a fifth term as long as the constitution allows him to do so, according to some observers.

However, some others believe that Bouteflika is unable to run for a new term due to health troubles.
