Nigeria: 79 candidates for the 2019 presidential election

NEWSROOM (ADV) – The Nigerian Electoral Commission has confirmed that 79 candidates, including incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, will be running in the next presidential election to be held in the country in 2019.

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, said 6,352 candidates were also validated for the upcoming elections to the country’s bicameral legislature. 91 political parties will participate in the 2019 general election.

Yakubu told that the preparations for the elections have really started and in line with the detailed timetable and calendar of activities published by the commission.

“The elections will be held in exactly 112 days, and we will continue to meticulously set the timetable for all activities,” he added.

The presidential elections will be held in Nigeria in February 2019.
