Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (ADV) – The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold a ministerial meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Somalia in Mogadishu on Saturday, sources said Wednesday.
Somalia will host this meeting on its soil for the first time in accordance with the resolutions of the 44th and 45th Islamic Conferences of Foreign Ministers, held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and in Dhaka, Bangladesh, respectively.
A statement by the OIC on Wednesday said the participants will focus on the ways and means to promote durable peace and institutional stability in Somalia.
Somalia, as a founding State of the OIC, has always occupied a high place on the agenda of the Organization, which continues to actively contribute at various levels for achieving peace and stability in the Horn of Africa nation.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation is an international organization founded in 1969, consisting of 57 member states, with a collective population of over 1.8 billion as of 2015 with 53 countries being Muslim Majority countries.
