Casablanca, Morocco (ADV) – Excessive speed was the main cause of the deadly train derailment in northern Morocco, investigators said Tuesday.
The train derailed last Tuesday near the city of Sale, killing seven passengers and injuring 125 others.
The prosecutors of Sale said in a statement that the train was travelling at a speed of 158 km per hour (kph), while the speed limit in the accident area was only 60 kph.
It also said the train’s driver, who had been placed under custody, was transferred to the local court of Sale over charges of manslaughter and causing intentional injuries.
