Casablanca, Morocco (ADV) – The Kingdom reaffirmed on Thursday its refusal to host migrant reception centers.
“Morocco firmly rejects setting up migrant centers on its soil,” government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi said at the press briefing held after weekly cabinet meeting.
He stressed that these centers “are not a genuine solution, but merely an exportation of the problem.”
“We need a long-term solution, not just short-term one,” El Khalfi added.
The EU has suggested building migrant reception centers in Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, similar to the ones in Turkey, to hold migrants seeking asylum in Europe.
