Casablanca, Morocco (ADV) – Tanzanian President John Magufuli has ordered the arrest of “all those involved in the management of the ferry” whose sinking has claimed at least 131 lives.
He announced the order in a speech on public television TBC One.
“It is clear that the ferry has exceeded its capacity,” Magufuli said, citing “negligence”. “I ordered the arrest of all those involved in the management of the ferry and the arrests have already begun”.
“I decided to declare a four-day national mourning from today,” he said, just after reporting a new death toll of 131 dead and 40 survivors.
