Casablanca, Morocco (ADV) – At least 11 people were killed and 15 wounded in a road accident Friday night in Mbeya in southern Tanzania, the Presidency said on Saturday.
The accident occurred when a truck carrying potatoes struck five vehicles, the source said.
“It is with dismay that I have learned of the death of eleven people in Mbeya, we have lost compatriots in a road accident, while others have been wounded, and I am deeply saddened.” said President John Magufuli quoted in a presidential statement.
Road accidents are common in Tanzania, often related to speed, overloading of vehicles and poor road conditions.
In March 2018, 24 people were killed in the collision of a bus with a truck, in April another 12 people were killed and 46 wounded in the same circumstances.
