Casablanca (ADV) – Mexican Javier Aguirre has been appointed as Egypt’s new coach for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ campaign.
Aguirre will succeed Argentinean coach Hector Cuper who ended his relationship with the Egyptian team after their disqualification at the group stage in 2018 FIFA World Cup. Egypt suffered three defeats at Russia 2018.
Aguirre led his native Mexico to two World Cups (2002 and 2010). He also had a brief stint with Japan, but exited the role following a disappointing showing at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
The newly appointed coach will be looking to lead the Pharaohs to their second successive World Cup for the first time in the team’s history.
