Casablanca, (ADV) – Former vice-president of the Democratic Republic of Congo will return to the country on August 1st after 10 years of absence.
Jean-Pierre Bemba will return to the Democratic Republic of Congo after being convicted by the permanent war crimes court. The former vice-president was recently released from prison, after the ICC quashed his convictions related to rape, murder, and pillage by fighters he had sent to Central African Republic. However, an appeal court has ruled that the former vice-president could not be held personally responsible for these crimes.
His return is announced to take place on the 1st of August. Mr.Bemba will run for December’s long-delayed presidential election, which could affect in a tremendous way Congolese politics.
The candidates have until 8 August to register for the presidential poll.
