Casablanca, (ADV) – According to the governor, 44 people have lost their lives and 20 are currently still missing following the floods in Katsina state, north-west Nigeria. The floods were a result of a heavy rain pouring down over the weekend.
Emergency services have reported that water levels increased to the extent of reaching houses’ roofs, making hundreds of people homeless. The governor assures that all measures are being taken in order to ensure people’s safety. In fact, several victims have already been relocated to emergency accommodations established in local schools. As for the corpses, they are currently being repatriated.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to this tragic event, expressing his sadness as well as his sincere condolences to the families of the victims killed in the floods.
“Let me assure you that we stand ready to provide, within available resources, every assistance that is needed to bring comfort to those in distress” the President declared.
