Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza Monday urged citizens to work hard and to be more united to consolidate the country’s independence.
Celebrations of the east African country’s 56th independence anniversary were held nationwide. Nkurunziza made the remarks during a celebration in Bujumbura, capital city of Burundi.
“Receiving independence is not enough. It is more important to safeguard it. This is therefore the time to make a self-assessment of what we are doing to consolidate our independence,” said Nkurunziza.
“Let’s work hard in our diverse sectors of life and let’s keep united,” he said.
